Hemispheres

There’s a battle going on,
a constant tug-of-war.
Sometimes I wonder if ever
they’ll establish a rapport.

My right brain’s on a tangent,
being crazily creative.
The left brain tries to rein it in
and be more contemplative.

The right brain wants to have some fun.
The left says make a plan,
and lays out all the details
the right won’t understand.

The left wants to be disciplined.
The right is a free spirit.
Right screams for spontaneity,
but left won’t even hear it.

The left wants to be organized.
The right’s much more untidy.
The left says finish Thursday;
the right says start on Friday.

One pulls left and one pulls right.
I can’t control these two.
My hemispheres are battling.
What am I supposed to do?

Maybe, I will find a way
someday to solve the riddle
of how to get my hemispheres
to meet me in the middle.
